What is Know Pain Physio about?

I created Know Pain Physio to educate the public about the pain experience in a way that everyone can understand.  With a deeper understanding of all the factors contributing to pain, I believe everyone will be able to better treat their own pain.  Whether your pain is acute (lasting less than 3 months) or chronic (lasting greater than 3 months) in nature, knowing more about your own pain will always lead to better outcomes.   I’ve grown frustrated with the over medicalization of pain, the over utilization of expensive medical testing (MRIs, CT scans, etc) and unnecessary medical interventions  (injections, medications, and especially, surgeries) that can do more harm than good to the people suffering from pain.  So this is my way of fighting that problem.

Who am I?

My name is Dr. Morris Narovlianski and I’m a physical therapist who specializes in chronic pain with a particular interest in chronic low back pain.  I received my Doctor of Physical Therapy from CUNY Hunter College in New York City.  I am certified as a Therapeutic Pain Specialist (a certification in pain treatment) by the International Spine and Pain Institute (now Evidence in Motion)

I enjoy lifting and I try to pay attention to what I eat (but I like food a lot).

IMPORTANT NOTE

Even though I want to help you treat yourself, I am in no way saying that medical treatment is wrong.  I’m saying that the healthcare system sucks at treating (neuro)musculoskeletal pain.  You should always consult your physician for general medical treatment.  But for (neuro)musculoskeletal pain, it’s very possible to be able to treat yourself (the more you understand pain, the more you’ll understand why I added the “neuro” component).
